A Message from Robert Buckley:                      6/30/2005

Here is the proposed design that the Parish Council will be asked to formally approve on July 11, 2005. Assuming the the approval goes forth as planned - we will be submitting a planning application to the local planning authority during the week. Local residents have been consulted and all are in favor - the site is currently pegged out in string to demonstrate the proposed position of the monument if anyone would like to take a look. As the grass cutting is due next week, I am looking forward to a better way of marking the site - perhaps spray.

I am now in discussion with stone masons Michael Farrow Ltd., about the costs and lead  times and with the monument masons WT Drage who built the Grafton Underwood memorial. This design will not be cheap, but it should stand for hundreds of years and so should be worth doing well. I am hoping that Billy's stell fabrication contacts will help with the steel work involved. For the ground works, I already have offers of labor from within the village. My aim is that we should only need to pay labor costs on the stone and granite work.

At the July 11th meeting, I'll also be seeking approval to establish a memorial fund open to public subscription with the aim of raising the necessary monies ASAP. The Rushden Motorcycle Club Action Group are likely to pledge the profits of their summer show at the Star and Garter to the memorial fund and Billy has suggested that his military vehicle group might be persuaded to put on a show. I'll be pursuing all possible options to build on the proposed donation from the 305th Memorial Association in the U.S.

I welcome any comments you might have that will refine the design. Design proposals can be viewed from the attached images.

Regards,
Bob
